I studied Advertising Art Direction for three years, under Will Chau, at the Austin Creative Department (ACD).
He taught us how to find simple and elegant design solutions by using his 1 + 1 = 3 method, and by only using as much as you really need to tell the story. I was lucky to win a Merit Award for my Outdoor Life advertisement and Will once said, “The One Memorial” concept was one of his favorites. Below you can see some designs that I came up while studying at ACD.
Create a print advertisement for Outdoor Life without using any content. The image must explain what Outdoor Life is all about.
A clear, simple statement with one image that translates into the benefits of hunting your own meat—being a Outdoor Life kinda guy or woman.
Won a Graphis Merit Award with this advertisement.
Make a statement about how we are all just human, regardless of our ethnicity, gender and political beliefs.
As the ultimate gesture of unity, the concept is to create a communal memorial/urn where people can opt in to have their ashes stored with people from all walks of life. This monument would stand as a symbol of unity and equality under all humankind.
Create a movie poster without any actors, photos, imagery referencing the movie.
